Wheelchair Ramp Project
Gem Mann (liaison between Philoptochos and Parish Council) presented The Wheelchair Ramp Project, which he’s personally been involved with for the last 7 years, through his employer, State Farm. Through the efforts of Jacksonville Housing Partnership (JHP), this provides wheelchair ramps for low-income, disabled individuals, who are otherwise unable to afford them.
The recipients are qualified through JHP, a carpenter is assigned, materials and equipment are provided, plans are drawn up, the dates are scheduled, etc. We (the church membership) would simply provide the manpower. The project is a one-day event (about 5-6 hours), with 15 people participating. Any and all members of the Parish are encouraged to sign up. Teenagers could use this as their community credit. Husbands and other family members can assist; others could bring sandwiches for the “crew.”
